How Do I Add Grades From the Testing Center to the Gradebook?

The CSV file with student grades from the Testing Center is not compatible with the Canvas gradebook, so you cannot directly import it into Canvas.  This article shows how to copy them into a CSV that Canvas will accept.

You will need to have a CSV of your Canvas course's gradebook.  For instructions on how to download that, follow this tutorial:

Open Testing Center CSV

Open the Testing Center CSV file.  Make sure any cell in the first column is selected.

Select Sort & Filter

Select Sort & Filter from the toolbar.

Sort A to Z

Sort the CSV file alphabetically from A to Z.  This will put the students in the same order as they are in the Canvas CSV file.

Copy Exam Scores

Select the scores and copy them by right-clicking and selecting "Copy" or pressing ctrl+C (command+C on Mac) on your keyboard.

Paste Exam Scores

Open the Canvas gradebook CSV. Select the first empty cell in the column for the exam and paste the values by right-clicking and selecting "Paste" or pressing ctrl+V (command+V on Mac) on your keyboard.

Save Canvas CSV

Click the Save icon in the top left of the Canvas CSV.

Import Canvas CSV

In your Canvas course's gradebook, click "Import" in the top right corner.

Choose File

Click "Choose File."

Select File

  1. Find and select the Canvas gradebook CSV.
  2. Click "Open."

Upload File

Click "Upload Data" to upload the changes to your gradebook.
